The Jackson Heart Study’s Community Outreach Center will host the 14th Annual Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Jackson Medical Mall’s center stage. This event honors the legacies of African-American people and the Jackson Heart Study cohort.
Health screenings will be conducted and various vendors will be on sight offering information and services.
The Jackson Heart Study is the world’s largest comprehensive investigation of cardiovascular health and disease among African Americans. The project explores the reasons there is a greater prevalence of the disease within this ethnic group. Some 5,301 African-American men and women are participants, and spin-off studies of the project include children as well.
Jackson State University is a leading collaborator as the study’s coordinating center. The university conducts community education and outreach programs and enhances the undergraduate training experience through opportunities to work with JHS data and investigators.
