A recent nationwide study conducted by Up & Up and Rival IQ revealed that Jackson State’s Facebook page ranks third among NCAA Division I universities nationwide. The company’s social media analytics software combed through university-level data from 338 institutions ranging from June 2018 to May 2019.

“We’re always humbled when our peers and other professionals in our industry recognize our hard work,” says Spencer McClenty, associate director for University Communications and Digital Media. “This is not just the work of Kentrice and myself, we view it as a team achievement for the entire staff in the area of University Communications which is under the leadership of Maxine Greenleaf.”

“We have a great Facebook following that is very engaged with the content that we post,” says Kentrice Rush, manager of Digital Media. “All of the reactions, shares and comments demonstrate how much our audience loves and cares about Jackson State, as well as how much they are informed and/or entertained by the content they see. I really appreciate our fan base, and I hope that we will continue to produce content that they enjoy.”

Up & Up and Rival IQ’s report also explored the fastest growing and most engaging university social media accounts nationwide. Rankings were computed using a weighted score of audience, activity, and engagement. Using this data and weighted formula, Rival IQ generated an overall engagement ranking for each school. The top-ranked universities have the highest engagement rates with average or better audience sizes and posting volumes. Cross-channel ranking was determined by overall engagement on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

“This ranking demonstrates the value that we place on communicating with our constituents,” says McClenty. “We understand that most American adults use social media on daily basis. Facebook is the most widely used social media platform in the world. Therefore, in order to communicate and engage our audiences on Facebook, we strategically employ various methods that have proven to be effective. This ranking underlines the effectiveness of our approach.”

The more engaged our Facebook fans are, the more likely others will be exposed to the great things that are happening at JSU, and the many successes of our students and alumni,” says Rush. “This helps give the University the positive attention and recognition it deserves.”
