Register for Homecoming parade featuring 2021 SWAC champions as grand marshals

Homecoming Parade (9am)

JSU’s 2021 Homecoming Parade registration is ongoing as organizers of upcoming festivities prepare to showcase its slew of grand marshals (2021 SWAC Champions) for the procession that will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in downtown Jackson.

Leading the parade will be dozens of student-athletes and the coaching staffs of women’s tennis (Coach Gabriella Moore); women’s volleyball (Coach Rose Washington); women’s basketball (Coach Tomekia Reed); and men’s basketball (Coach Wayne Brent).

Dr. Susan E. Powell, associate vice president for JSU’s Student Affairs, said, “In the midst of COVID-19, our sports teams were still able to persevere. They performed; they did outstanding and pulled together as a team. We wanted to celebrate them because they’re family. They’re our JSU family, and we just want to congratulate them and encourage them to continue to do great things.”

Parade registration is available through JSU Marketplace. The fee is $30 through Sept. 30. After that, registration will include an additional $20 late fee (Oct. 1-5).

Christiana and Stan Branson of 99 Jams WJMI will host the parade, which will consist of a VIP lineup of student leaders, alums and other luminaries:

  • JSU Vice President and Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson
  • JSU President Emeritus Dr. John A. Peoples Jr. and his wife, Mary E. Peoples
  • JSU National Alumni Association President Dr. Earlexia Norwood, and various chapters
  • Mister JSU (Christopher Calhoun Jr.); Miss JSU (Halle Coleman); and the Royal Court
