College of Public Service adds Smart Classrooms

The Jackson State University College of Public Service, with the support of the Division of Academic Affairs, has established two Smart Classrooms in its Jackson Medical Mall location. The purpose of these classrooms is to offer both existing and new students innovative, interesting and exciting methods of receiving a premier education.

Smart Board-3

College of Public Service Assistant Professor of Communicative Disorders, Dr. Mary Langford Hall, uses the ActivBoard as she lectures.

The Smart Classrooms feature the Promethean ActivBoard. The ActivBoard is a state-of-the-art interactive whiteboard with pen and intuitive multi-user, multi-touch functionality. Designed to foster a true collaborative learning experience, the ActivBoard enables up to four students to work together simultaneously. Images can be easily moved, scaled and rotated with finger touch, while pen functionality offers the ideal tool for real-life pen tasks.

Promethean’s award-winning ActivInspire software unlocks a world of rich, open content and teaching resources, such as math tools, sounds, templates and gesture touch applications. Promethean ActivOffice, an ActivInspire plug-in for PowerPoint®, incorporates the collaborative features of Promethean’s ActivInspire into PowerPoint® slide shows to create interactive, engaging presentations.

In addition to interactive learning, the new technology will enhance student access and supports the College of Public Service’s enrollment goals through online and distance learning. The Smart Classrooms will be available for use beginning fall 2013.
