The Jackson State University String Ensemble, in partnership with music education professor Dr. David Akombo, recently gave performances at the Mississippi Children’s Home and The Hope House of Hospitality in Jackson.
The music selections, which ranged from J.S. Bach’s “Jesu Joy of man’s Desiring” to the Brazilian Villa-Lobos’s “Bachianas Brasilieras no. 5,” thrilled both the children and older adults alike. This music education outreach program is a continuing partnership with the Music Education Department at JSU and the community. It is led by Rachel Jordan, assistant director of the String Ensemble, and Akombo.
