The Jackson State University Farmers’ Network will host the National Women in Agriculture Association (NWIAA) annual meeting April 18-20, 2013 on the university’s main campus and at the Mississippi e-Center. The NWIAA, established in Oklahoma City, Okla., in 2008 by attorney and farmer Tammy Steele-Gray, is a faith based, non-profit organization that has chapters in 10 states. The JSU Farmer’s Network is a community service of the College of Business.
The NWIAA annual meeting is designed to further the organization’s goal of promoting viable farming activity in underserved communities throughout the United States.
Mississippi State Commissioner of Agriculture Cindy Hyde-Smith and other officials from several agriculture related agencies at the state, local and federal levels will attend the meeting, which begins with a Garden Party on Thursday. Other highlights of the meeting include tours of local farms, demonstrations of hydroponic and organic farming and a livestock show.
