On Monday, March 25th, the Line Dance and Zumbathon kicked off the events of the JSU Fit Fest Week, which culminates with the 7th Annual Fight Against Obesity “Sweetness” 5K Run/Walk and One Mile Fun Run.
The goal is to raise awareness about Mississippi’s obesity epidemic and educate the community about healthy eating and exercise.
Rachel Cowan, director of recreational services at the Walter Payton Center, was among those who led the participants in a routine that blended dance with exercise.
“I want people to know that being fit can be fun,” Cowan said.
Cowan said Fit Fest Week is about educating the community about the risks associated with obesity.
Fit Fest Week continues as follows:
Tuesday, March 26 – “Taste of Fitness,” 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Wednesday, March 27 – JSU Wellness Fair, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
