On Tuesday, 63 contestants, including JSU staff and students, visited the Welcome Center for the initial weigh in. Riggins was impressed with the turnout Tuesday. “It was exciting to see so many people accept the challenge and take this first step to healthier living,” she said.

Jackson State students are also taking on the challenge to lose unwanted pounds over the next few months. Freshman political science major Tariana Furlow, said, “My expectation for this challenge is to lose weight while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I don’t want to necessarily stop eating but to eat healthy and nutritious meals that benefit my body in a positive way. And, I want to exercise to stay active while trying to lose or maintain a certain body shape.”

The “JSU Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge” runs from Jan. 26 to May 24, and participants are committed to going the extra mile to get in shape. The final weigh-in will be from noon until 1:30 p.m. May 24 at the JSU Welcome Center  during  National Fitness and Sports Month.  A brief awards ceremony will follow.
