Award-Winning Broadcast Journalist DeMarco Morgan named Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal

(JACKSON, Miss.) – Jackson State University (JSU) alum and award-winning journalist DeMarco Morgan will serve as grand marshal for the 2025 JSU homecoming parade on Saturday, Oct. 11. In 2022, Morgan became part of the ABC News anchor rotation for Good Morning America’s third hour, later becoming a permanent anchor in 2023 until earlier this year.

“When I got the call, I was absolutely blown away. It is truly an honor to be celebrated by your own,” said Morgan. “Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought I’d be leading Jackson State’s homecoming parade.”

Morgan has worked as a correspondent and anchor in Jackson, Milwaukee, Miami, Atlanta and New York. From covering the first national rally following the shooting death of Trayvon Martin to reporting on President Obama’s second inauguration, Morgan’s work has spotlighted pivotal national moments.

Morgan’s love for JSU has been evident throughout his career. He delivered the address for the 2017 JSU spring commencement ceremony and will now lead the homecoming parade as grand marshal.

“Whenever I come back to the yard, I feel 19 years old again, like I never left. To me, that says a lot about the experience you get as a student at Jackson State and as an alum, when you come back, it feels like home,” said Morgan.

Morgan earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from JSU with honors in 2001 and a master’s in journalism from Columbia University in New York. Notably, he was a Fred Friendly Scholar and interned for CBS News while at Columbia.
