CEHD administrator recognized with regional award

The Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education (MAACE) recently recognized Cleopatric Porter as Administrator of the Year for the southern region.  This award recognizes administrators that have made significant contributions to or improvements in adult education.

Porter serves as the coordinator of the Continuing Education Learning Center (CELC), which is one of the centers within the College of Education and Human Development’s School of Lifelong Learning.  The CELC is an innovative program that delivers tutorial and basic skills training, intermediate reading, GED preparation, occupational skills, conflict management, financial management, parenting skills and English as a Second Language training to under-educated/underemployed adults, 17 years of age and older.

Porter has worked for the CELC for 21 years and has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help the students as well as her teachers excel to their highest potential academically, socially and economically.  In addition, for the past few years she has helped generate over $500,000 through various grants to help support the CELC .  These grantors include the Mississippi Community College Board/Adult Basic Education, United Way, Wal-Mart, Comcast and the Dollar General Foundation.
