The Jackson State University Department of Speech and Theatre will present the highly acclaimed play “In the Red and Brown Water — An Athlete’s Journey of Sacrifice and Independence” on Feb. 27 — Mar. 3. in the Rose E. McCoy Auditorium.
The play is a coming of age drama about a spunky young runner Oya. Oya can earn a track scholarship to any school, yet she declines her offers to take care of her mother, Mama Moja. When Mama dies soon after, Oya’s metamorphosis from a young girl into an independent woman begins. Oya goes through an emotional journey but eventually finds herself.
Professor Yolanda Williams directs this moving drama.
The play will show at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 27 – March 1, March 3. There will be a 3 p.m. showing on March 2. There also will be a special school showing on Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. General admission is $10 and $5 for students and senior citizens with identification. To purchase tickets now, click here.
