Funeral for Wright set for Wednesday

Funeral services are set for noon Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala., for former Jackson State University basketball player James Wright.

Services will be at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1329 Avenue G, in Birmingham.

Wright died Jan. 21 at home. He was 46.

An assistant men’s basketball coach at Alabama A&M for the past four years, Wright was a 1993 JSU graduate. He previously had served as senior director of the Mo Williams Basketball Camp, which was held annually in Jackson, and the Lindsey Hunter Basketball Camp. Hunter, a former star with the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, is a former JSU teammate of Wright.

Wright died of cardiopulmonary causes, ruled a natural death, according to Alabama authorities.

Wright played on the JSU men’s basketball team under head coach Andy Stoglin, in 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94, playing two seasons with Hunter (’91-93).
