Jackson State University’s Annette K. Pridgen, Ph.D., has been appointed by Gov. Tate Reeves to represent the 3rd Congressional District for the Mississippi State Board of Public Accountancy. The five-year appointment began on Jan. 1, 2022, and ends on Dec. 31, 2027.
“I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on the Board of Public Accountancy,” said Pridgen. “Certified public accountants provide valuable services to the public, and I look forward to continuing to uphold the highest standards of proficiency in the profession.”
Pridgen served as an associate professor of accounting at JSU before retiring in June 2019. Prior to that role, she was an assistant professor at the University of Mississippi. Pridgen also has more than 15 years of combined experience in auditing with the Mississippi State Auditor’s Office, the Mississippi Department of Human Services, and the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office.
Additionally, Pridgen served as a certified government financial manager and a certified internal control auditor. She was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA), the Academy of Accounting Historians, the American Accounting Association, the National Association of Black Accountants, and the Ph.D. Project.
She was also selected as a member of the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) Green Book Advisory Council to update internal control standards for the U.S. government. She also served on the GAO Yellow Book Advisory Council for which she updated the government auditing standards.
Pridgen has been a member of the Jackson chapter of the Association of Government Accountants for 34 years. During her tenure, she held positions as secretary and president. Pridgen was also honored for her contributions to research in the field of government finance by receiving the Association of Government Accountants’ Cornelius E. Tierney/Ernst & Young Research National Award.
She co-authored the book MSCPA Centennial History: A Century of CPAs in Mississippi. This work was commissioned as a part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the MSCPA. The book displays the culture of the organization and the accounting profession in Mississippi.
Pridgen is a member of the Spring Lake Garden Club in Pearl, Mississippi, that is affiliated with the Natchez Trace District of the Garden Club of Mississippi, Inc.
She has been married to her childhood sweetheart, Joseph, for 46 years. They have four children and “the most adorable grandchildren.” She is also a member of Sweet Rest Church in Pearl, Mississippi, where her husband, Joseph, has been the pastor for 25 years. Pridgen holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting from JSU, and a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Mississippi.
