Grammy-winning artist George Winston will perform with the JSU Jazz Ensemble on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Jackson State University Department of Music presents Grammy Award-winning pianist-composer George Winston in a free public performance Masterclass at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb.10, in the F.D. Hall Music Center on the main campus.

Known for his unique style of “New Age” acoustic piano music, Winston has entertained packed audiences throughout the United States and Europe for more than 30 years. On his most recent album, “Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions 2: A Louisiana Wetlands Benefit,” he weaves the blues and stride piano influences of New Orleans into his own inspired rhythms.

The Clarion Ledger say Winston spent his formative years in Mississippi, crediting the state as the place that gave him an “intoxicating mix of heat and humidity, the black of night and buzz of insects and, later, the blues.”

Winston’s deeply interpretive playing and rich and original melodies create an unforgettable performance of musical enchantment. At JSU, he will share his talents and performance experiences in a Masterclass, featuring piano majors Larry Weems and George Williams and assisted by members of the JSU Jazz Ensemble.
