Fashion stylist, Jackson State University alumnae, and former J-Sette, Tamala Greene (c/o ’14) is making a name for herself in the fashion industry. Her most recent work was selected as the cover of the June issue of Feroce Magazine.
“Tell us a little about how you became a stylist?”
“My passion for fashion started my sophomore year at JSU but at the time I didn’t know if I wanted to be a fashion designer, fashion editor, or even a fashion stylist. After graduating from JSU, I immediately got accepted into the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, CA where I studied Visual Communications for Fashion. FIDM taught me so much about fashion styling and while attending, I took on internships with celebrity stylist and designers. After interning, I wanted to start branching off to build my own platform so I started working with photographers based in MS and LA (Jerron White and Justin Hardiman) to bring my styling visions to life.”
“How did you get the cover of Feroce Magazine?”
“I love to submit my work to all magazines. It helps me to build and publicize my name and work. After Feroce Magazine successfully accepted myself and my team’s work, they later notified me that my work was selected to be featured on the cover page of their magazine. I gladly accepted the offer.”
“How did you come up with that particular style arrangement for the Feroce cover?”
“Living in a big city with no car taught me so much about a public eye and public transportation. While everyone else had a car to get them to their destination, I had no choice but to take public transits to fashion interviews, to school, to internships, networking opportunities and fashion shows. While commuting, many people would stare at me because I was always overdressed, but they had no idea that I was just following my dreams and being myself. So, my inspiration behind styling this editorial shoot was a reflection of what I wore during those times.”
