Jackson State University’s Division of Athletics will induct 15 new legends into its 2016 Sports Hall of Fame during a banquet ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in the Student Center Ballroom on the main campus, 1400 John R. Lynch Street.
Wheeler Brown, JSU’s director of athletics, said, “This year’s event promises to be an exciting one. The selection committee has done an outstanding job. … It’s a great honor to be inducted into your institution’s Sports Hall of Fame, and I’m sure all the inductees feel the same way.”
The honorees will represent four sports: basketball, football, track and field and volleyball. Also, a longtime supporter will be inducted into the prestigious society.
The 2016 inductees are:

- Samuel Jefferson, sports information director
- Sandra Jenkins, volleyball
- Barney King, track and field

- Phillip Perkins, football
- Vanetta E. Robinson Kelso, basketball
- Janice Staffney, basketball
- Frank Sutton Sr., football
- James Turner, basketball
- Henry Ward (deceased), basketball
