JSU announces Smith as new development officer for College of Business

Dr. Steve Smith will join the College of Business effective July 15.

Jackson State University is pleased to announce that Steven Smith, Ph.D., will be serving as the new development officer for the College of Business effective July 15. Smith currently serves as the director of Alumni and Constituency Relations for the university.

“Dr. Smith brings a high level of professionalism and experience that is needed to advance the vision and mission of the College of Business. He is a JSU alum and has a great passion for the institution. I believe this addition to our development team will significantly enhance our ability to provide the resources required to ensure our students continue to have the best possible educational experience,” said Anthony Holloman, vice president for Institutional Advancement.

Dr. Ramin C. Maysami, said, “I look forward to Steve’s contributions to the College of Business. His experience and alumni relationships will be great assets for linking us to the community.”

The College of Business (authorized July 1, 1972) includes the Departments of Accounting; Economics, Finance, and General Business; Management and Marketing; and Entrepreneurship and Professional Development.  Additionally, the college houses a Career Services Office, Business Graduate Programs, a Center for Professional Development and Entrepreneurship, and a Center for Business Development and Economic Research.

Smith said, “I am excited about the challenge and the opportunity to play a vital role in the efforts to expand support for Jackson State. It is my goal to work with Dean Maysami, the faculty and our current corporate partners, alumni and supporters to grow our portfolio of donors.”

Since its inception, the College of Business has experienced substantial growth in faculty size, student enrollment, and facilities. Notably, the college opened a state-of-the-art Trading Room that offers up-to-the-minute movements of publicly traded stocks, 24 student work stations, and some of the most sophisticated financial software on the market. The College is accredited by AACSB–the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Smith earned both a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Arts in higher education administration from Jackson State. His Bachelor of Science degree is in mass communications and was also awarded by Jackson State University.
