Malcolm D. Jackson, a Jackson State University graduate and a President Obama appointee within the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, has been recognized by two groups as a leader in the field of technology.
Jackson is among those selected for Computerworld’s “Premier 100 IT Leaders Awards” program. He has also been named by Blackmoney.com as one of the “50 Most Important African-Americans in Technology.”
Jackson is the EPA’s assistant administrator for the Office of Environmental Information and its chief information officer. Jackson is responsible for IT operations and security, information quality and collection, and access to environmental information including the Toxics Release Inventory. His leadership focus includes IT strategic planning and governance, IT investment management and government transparency.
“It’s humbling being recognized for the work that I do. It’s an honor and a privilege to be selected by the president to represent him in this role,” Jackson said. “I lead a team of very talented individuals who are helping us meet the agency’s mission to protect the environment that we live in.”
He also gives JSU some of the credit for his success.
“Jackson State University taught me to be the best at what I do and to embrace change,” Jackson said.
Blackmoney.com, a business news website, will host Jackson and its other honorees Jan. 15, 2013, in Washington, D.C., at the 13th Innovation & Equity Symposium.
“Jackson represents the strides that more than 80,000 African-Americans have made in federal technology jobs, and it shows that talent can be found throughout the country,” said John William Templeton,” executive editor of Blackmoney.com.
The “Premier 100 IT Leaders Awards” honor individuals who have had a positive impact on their organization through technology. Jackson is a 2013 honoree. He and the other honorees’ achievements will be highlighted in the Feb. 25, 2013, issue of Computerworld. They’ll also be recognized during the Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference, held March 3-5 in Tucson, Ariz.
Jackson holds a B.S. from Jackson State and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University, J.L. Kellogg School of Management.
