Jackson State University’s 2022 “It’s a Different World” Homecoming is sponsored by Gilead, a research-based biopharmaceutical company, who will visit the HBCU on Thursday, Oct. 20, to engage HBCU students, faculty and alums during Homecoming for the company’s HBCU roadshow.

“We are excited to have Gilead on board as our homecoming sponsor and to be included in their HBCU roadshow. As such, we invite the JSU family to engage with them and participate in the activities they have planned for this week,” said JSU President Thomas K. Hudson, J.D. “We also champion their comprehensive approach to informing traditionally marginalized communities about ways to improve health outcomes as they advance Black health and equity throughout the nation.”
From Oct. 20 to Oct. 22, the company will deploy a series of on-campus activations to complement JSU’s Homecoming celebrations, including a career-building “lunch and learn” and a pop-up event where participants can play games, receive prizes and learn about Gilead’s current health equity initiatives.
In addition, Gilead will bring certified community liaisons on campus to educate students about risks, testing, preventive measures and medicines to slow the growth rate of sexually-transmitted infections within the Black community.
“Gilead is proud to build on our previous collaborations with historically Black colleges and universities by bringing our first-ever HBCU Roadshow to 11 universities over the next six weeks,” said Tiffany West, senior director of Advancing Health and Black Equity, Gilead Sciences. “There is no better source of visionary leaders in the work of advancing Black and health equity than America’s HBCUs. We look forward to reaching students, faculty and alumni at Homecoming to help break down existing barriers in healthcare, social justice and career opportunities.”

The Gilead HBCU Roadshow is a unique opportunity to highlight the valuable role of HBCUs in improving health outcomes for Black Americans and Gilead’s ongoing efforts to champion inclusion, diversity and social justice. Through the company’s longstanding commitment to advancing Black health and equity, the Roadshow builds on Gilead’s previous collaborations with HBCUs that help break down existing barriers in healthcare, social justice, and career opportunities.
The full tour will span six weeks and stop on campuses across the South, culminating at the 49th Annual Bayou Classic football game in New Orleans.
