JSU junior named Miss Black Mississippi USA 2012

Christina Bernard

Jackson State University student Christina Bernard was recently crowned Miss Black Mississippi USA 2012.

“I was ecstatic when I got the call,” said Bernard, a 20-year-old junior Computer Engineering/Biology major. “It is truly an honor to be counted among the many talented and educated black women of my generation.”

Bernard’s official platform is “A Future of Hope.”

“In order to have a future of hope, we must first heal our present and forgive our past,” Bernard said. “We must look toward our future, which is our youth, and correct the mistakes of past generations to build a better community.”

Bernard hopes to raise awareness about charities that impact our youth in areas of education, the arts and mental health throughout the state.

As Miss Black Mississippi USA 2012, Bernard will represent the state in the 25th Annual Miss Black USA Scholarship pageant in August 2012. The Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant, a premiere pageant for women of color, is a community driven organization committed to promoting health and education in the African-American community.
