JSU Latasha Norman Center hires assistant director of ADA Services

Monica Wall-Jones has joined Jackson State University’s Latasha Norman Center for Counseling and Disability Services, as assistant director of ADA (Americans with Disabilities) Services.

Wall-Jones’ major responsibility is to ensure compliance with the federal, local and state guidelines of 504 and coordinate accommodations and services throughout the campus for students and employees with disabilities. Her goal is to ensure that appropriate accommodations and support is provided to ADA-covered students and employees with physical or mental conditions that limit major life activities.

She has more than 10 years of experience working with Americans with disabilities. Prior to joining Jackson State University, Wall-Jones worked as a Psychologist III with a state agency where she served as an advocate for individuals under the 504 and 508 guidelines of the ADA law. She also worked as a certified mental health therapist, an exceptional education teacher in the Jackson Public Schools District and a Hinds County Deputy Sheriff.

The Jackson, Miss. native holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Education with a concentration in special education and a master’s degree in Education with endorsements in guidance counseling from Alcorn State University. In addition, she earned master’s level credit hours in drug and alcohol counseling and criminology from the University of Phoenix.

“We look forward to Mrs. Wall-Jones working with students, employees and Jackson State University guests during activities, classes, events and programs to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act,” said Dr. Marcus A. Chanay, JSU Vice President for Student Life. “She brings more than 10 years of experience working with and being an advocate for individuals under ADA.”

Wall-Jones is a member of the Delta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and is the newly elected 2nd Vice President (2012-2014).

The Latasha Norman Center for Counseling and Disability Services is located on the second floor of the JSU Student Center.
