JSU play ‘Like Fine Wine’ continues through Monday

Like-Fine-Wine-slide-960x490-copy1Jackson State University’s Department of Speech Communications and Theater is presenting the play Like Fine Wine, a story about dreams that never die. It began Thursday and continues through Monday at the Rose E. McCoy Auditorium.

The story revolves around Caleb “Sax” Sanders, a blue-collar cab driver from Memphis, who was once on the brink of breaking into the business as a famous jazz musician. Life threw him a curveball, and he was forced to put his dreams on hold. An old friend visits him on his 50th birthday and sees a once-renowned musician a shell of his former self. Is it too late for Caleb to pursue his once-deferred dream? Or will be he content with memories and what-ifs?

The play, which runs through Sept. 29. was written by Prince Duren, a 2009 Jackson State University graduate who is now a visiting instructor at the university. Duren received a bachelor’s degree in mass communications at JSU and a master of fine arts at the University of Arkansas.

Admission is $5 for students and senior citizens and $10 general admission. Tickets may be picked up beforehand at the box office in the auditorium lobby or on the department’s Webpage, where additional information may be found:  www.jsums.edu/speechandtheatre
