JSU President Emeritus Peoples and Rep. Clark discuss career paths

2014.2.18 COFO - Peoples and Clark -6121The Fannie Lou Hamer Institute @ COFO hosted “An Evening with Rep. Robert G. Clark Jr. and Dr. John A. Peoples Jr.”  on Feb. 18.

The paths of Clark (pictured, right) and Peoples (pictured, left) crossed in 1948 on the campus of Jackson State College. What bound them was their commonality as scholar athletes and student leaders.  Clark was the first Jackson State student to be awarded a track scholarship and Peoples was on the track team and played split end on the football team.

These two distinguished Jackson State graduates went on to achieve a number of firsts in their long careers. Clark and Peoples discussed their careers and the impact Jackson State had on their lives.  They also discussed their current interests and the future of higher education and politics in Mississippi. This event was held at the COFO Civil Rights Education Center at 1017 John R. Lynch St. in Jackson.
