JSU professor elected to National Fulbright Board

Jackson State University professor Dr. Judy A. Meredith was elected to the National Fulbright Board Association’s Board of Directors. Meredith will serve Jan. 1, 2014, until Dec. 31, 2016.

The Fulbright Association is the private, nonprofit membership organization of Fulbright Program alumni and friends. The Association is dedicated to promoting the flagship program for international educational and cultural exchange, enriching the experiences of visiting Fulbright students, teachers, and scholars in their host communities throughout the United States, and fostering a global network of Fulbright alumni.

Meredith is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Mass Communication at Jackson State University. She has had a diverse career as a broadcast journalist and an educator.  As a former TV news reporter, she has worked at a number of stations in Jackson and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Meredith received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Lincoln University in Missouri, a Master of Arts in English (Mass Communication Concentration) from Jackson State University in Mississippi, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University. In 1997, she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study “Communication Sciences and the Media in Germany.”

In September 2010, Meredith’s dissertation was published as a monograph by Lambert Academic Publishing in Germany. It explores the glass ceiling for women in administration at public universities in the Deep South.
