Jackson State University professor Dr. Jerzy Leszczynski has been invited to serve on a prestigious board of counselors for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Leszczynski, a professor and President’s Distinguished Fellow with the JSU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, was invited this month to join the EPA’s Board of Scientific Counselors Chemical Safety for Sustainability Subcommittee. His term ends Sept. 5, 2017.
“It’s a great honor and I would be thrilled to have an opportunity to provide scientific environmental advice to such an important agency,” Leszczynski said.
The board’s mission is to provide advice and recommendations on science and engineering research programs, plans, laboratories and research management practices and aid in developing plans for the EPA’s Office of Research and Development.
Dr. Leszczynski’s area of interest includes application of computation methods to various problems of chemistry, physics and environmental science.
He received his P
h.D. in chemistry from the University of Wroclaw, Poland, in 1975, and came on board at JSU in 1990. He is founding editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences based in Basel, Switzerland.
He’s the editor of three chemistry book series – one of 17 volumes, another 4 volumes and another of 3 volumes – all published by Springer scientific book publishing, and serves as editor of Structural Chemistry Journal.
Leszczynski was invited to accept the post Sept. 4 by Lisa Feldt, acting deputy administrator, in Washington, D.C.
