JSU professor recognized by state legislators for service in education

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi House of Representatives honored Jackson State University’s (JSU) Jennifer Young Wallace, Ph.D., with a resolution recognizing her outstanding service and impactful contributions to education across the nation. Wallace is a tenured associate professor in the College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) in the Department of Educational Administration, Foundations and Research (EAFR). 

Wallace, an award-winning educator, expresses her pride in joining the rich history of Mississippi educators who have been recognized for their service and dedication to education.

“I could not have imagined such an honor and recognition of something for which I have a deep passion–education,” said Wallace. “I am thankful for the support of my Jackson State University colleagues and administrators. I am so grateful to the initiators of the resolution and the Mississippi House of Representatives for bestowing such an honor upon me.”

Wallace was recognized for her national influence as a presenter and researcher in educational leadership and emerging trends. Her work includes contributing to more than 20 publications in respected national journals, encyclopedias and books by prominent authors. She also serves as the 2025-2026 president of the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE). 

Wallace’s commitment to advancing education has earned her multiple local, state and national honors, including her election as one of seven professors nationwide to the American Association for College Teachers of Education (AACTE) committee. She is also an active  member of the Mississippi Department of Education, the Margaret Walker Alexander National Center Board, Precious Children Mobile Mission and the Legislative Government Relations Committee for ATE.

The resolution introduced by state Rep. Bryant Clark was adopted during a February session at the Mississippi State Capitol. The honor was also championed by house members Timaka James-Jones and Zakiya Summers and signed by Speaker of the House Jason White.
