Jackson State University announces the promotion of Dr. Nicole Edwards Evans to vice president and to the president’s Cabinet.

Previously, Evans, a native of Jackson, served as associate provost for Institutional Research, Planning and Enrollment Management in which she was instrumental in pushing JSU to record enrollment of more than 9,500 students.

As well, she was pivotal in increasing JSU’s online degree programs from two to 19. In 2011, Evans led the SACS reaffirmation process, which resulted in the institution being reaccredited for 10 years.

JSU President Carolyn W. Meyers said, “Dr. Evans’ appointment elevates our commitment to student success and retention. As well, it recognizes her outstanding performance.”

Of her promotion, Evans said, “Dr. Meyers has put together a great leadership team, and I’m honored to be a part of it. JSU is poised for continued growth and development, and I’m very excited and energized with the opportunity to make a difference.”

Dr. James C. Renick, provost and senior vice president for Academic and Student Affairs, said, “I’m really happy for Dr. Evans. She continues to provide leadership in important areas.”

In her new role as vice president for Enrollment Management and Institutional Research, Evans will continue to oversee enrollment management, institutional research and assessment, accreditation and JSUOnline.

Evans received her undergraduate degree in speech communications at Jackson State University. She earned her graduate degree in public relations from the University of Southern Mississippi, where she also earned her doctorate in higher education administration and research.

She has worked at JSU for more than eight years.

Prior to joining JSU, she was associate vice president for Academic Affairs at Lane College after serving on the faculty at Tougaloo College.
