Jackson State University student Perrin Bostic has been named to the 2013 Future Public Health Leaders cohort at the University of Michigan School Of Public Health (UM-SPH).

The UM-SPH is ranked No. 1 in health care administration nationally and No. 4 in public health.
Bostic is a junior health care administration major.
“Being a member of the 2013 cohort of future public health leaders is an astronomical accomplishment for me. It means my hard work and dedication are paying off and that I’m one step closer to making a difference in the public health arena,” Bostic said.
The program will begin with a three-day orientation at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. The remainder of the program will be completed in Ann Arbor, Mich., on the campus of the University of Michigan.
The program is funded through a Cooperative Agreement with the CDC, Office of Minority Health and Health Equity. Its goal is to increase the diversity of the public health workforce. Bostic will be among undergraduate students from across the country, receiving leadership training, orientation to the public health disciplines, and real-world work experience at a variety of internships in environmental health sciences and health behavior and education.
The program is designed to foster knowledge of, excitement about, and commitment to the elimination of health inequalities, according to the UM-SPH.
Last summer, Perrin was a fellow at the CDC, working for the chief performance officer in the office of the chief operating officer.
“I chose health care administration as my major because I’m passionate about public service and I believe that of all forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most inhumane,” Bostic said.
Upon graduation, Bostic plans to pursue a law degree and a master’s in public administration. He hopes to become a chief operating officer at a hospital or government agency.
