JSU’s Kameron Boggan named 2013 SWAC Woman of the Year

BogganThe Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State University volleyball’s Kameron Boggan as its 2013 SWAC Woman of the Year.

In 2012, Boggan (Portland, Ore./Benson Polytechnic HS) served as a team captain while helping lead JSU to a fourth consecutive Eastern Division title, and a 22-match win streak, en route to back-to-back tournament crowns. For the season, she recorded 130 kills and 45 assists to help lift JSU to a 24-12 overall record with a consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

A member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Boggan is also an assistant secretary for the American Society of Civil Engineers. She spearheaded several community service projects that include: Habitat for Humanity, Legacy Health System, National Society of Black Engineers and Obesity Walk. In addition, she held stints as a project manager with the Capstone Senior Design Project and the Recycling Service Learning Project

Boggan, a civil engineering major, also garnered the team’s highest grade point average and received it’s Clutch Player and Leadership awards. She becomes the second JSU volleyball player to be named SWAC Woman of the Year, following former teammate LaToya Clark whom was the recipient in 2012.

Other 2013 SWAC Woman of the Year nominees include: Sabeana Romero (Jackson State – Softball), Ninfa Barnard (Arkansas-Pine Bluff – Track & Field), and Rebecca Villarreal (Texas Southern – Softball).

The SWAC Woman of the Year award began in 2011 with co-winners, Prairie View A&M’s Peni Sanjoto (Golf) and Kristina Sadler (Bowling), receiving the honor.
