Margaret Walker Center’s book signing, reading part of Evers commemoration

The Margaret Walker Center will hold a special reception and book signing Thursday, June 13, at 5 p.m. at the Margaret Walker Center in Ayer Hall on the campus of Jackson State University.  Part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Medgar Evers, this event will feature two outstanding scholars and authors: Frank X Walker and Minrose Gwin.
book-signing_flyer3-copyWalker is an English professor and Director of African American and Africana Studies at the University of Kentucky. He is also  Kentucky’s poet laureate. He has released Turn Me Loose: The Unghosting of Medgar Evers.  Minrose Gwin is a writer, scholar, and educator at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.  She will be reading from her current book, Remembering Medgar Evers: Writing the Long Civil Rights Movement.  A discussion will follow, moderated by Suzanne Marrs, Eudora Welty biographer and professor of English at Millsaps College.

Their books will be available for purchase the night of the event in Ayer Hall.  Refreshments will be served.
