Recently, the Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer appointed Dr. Tellis Jerome Chapman as commissioner to the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards.
Chapman says he feels “honored about his appointment where he will establish and enforce policy relative to police throughout the state of Michigan.”
He will represent the residents of Michigan for a term commencing August 14, 2020 and expiring December 31, 2023.
Chapman is the pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. He is a board member of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., and serves as director for the Pastors’ and Ministers’ Division. He also served in the capacity of chairman of Late Night Worship services from 2010-2015.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Jackson State University and honorary doctorates from Natchez College and Dallas Baptist College. He is currently a masters’ candidate at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Chapman is married to Eunice and together, they have four children: Cecil, Brandie, Candace, and Brannon. They also are proud grandparents of one granddaughter, Chloe.
