‘Portico’ magazine recognizes WJSU DJ, music manager ‘Blue Wolf’

Screen Shot 2014-07-23 at 12.11.21 PMLarissa Hale, also known as the “Blue Wolf,” is disc jockey and music manager for WJSU, a “cool and current” source for Jackson’s NPR news and jazz radio owned by Jackson State University. Hale was recognized for her “sultry-melodic” voice in a feature article in Portico Magazine, a local monthly publication that offers fun and stylishly energetic engagement to its readers.

Having received her professional training and mentorship within the JSU media community, Hale originally studied English education and journalism during her student career, which evolved into her passion for broadcast radio entertainment.

“I was excited. I felt honored,” said Hale who mentioned how much she loves her daily WJSU radio segment. “Other than blending different types of jazz, I’d love to be more hands-on with independent and nationally recognized artists,” said Hale.

When it comes to WJSU Jazz radio, Hale plans to incorporate international, national and local talent to continuously diversify an “ever-evolving” music culture both here at JSU and the city of Jackson.

You can listen out for the Blue Wolf Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. until noon, and on Saturdays from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m.  Follow her on Twitter and Facebook.
