More than 50 top corporate recruiters converged on the Jackson State University campus Thursday for a Career Fair.

“It’s been good!” said Kris Hickman, director of recruiting and public relations at Crest Industries, of the number and quality of prospective hires.

Headquartered in Alexandria, La., Crest was looking to fill several openings, including three civil engineering and one electrical engineering position, Hickman said.

Asked if she had found any likely hires, she smiled and nodded, pointing to a student with whom she had just spoken.

The event, held at the Walter Payton Recreation Complex, is a venue for students/alumni in search of a career after graduation. Hundreds of students attended.

A wide variety of jobs was available from large corporations such as American Airlines, to Kroger to Nissan to Toyota to Union Pacific, to banks, to military recruiters to state agencies to social service organizations.

Emily Lambuth, human resources office manager for the Walmart Distribution Center in Brookhaven, said many students don’t know what types of job they want, which makes it difficult for recruiters.

She said that Walmart was looking for area floor managers in shipping and receiving.

Liz Broussard, state fellow for FoodCorps Mississippi, was looking for graduates in search of public service opportunities. “A lot of people are interested in health and education,” she said.
