Regional Science Fair hosted by JSU on Thursday and Friday

More than 1,200 students from 250 public and private schools in the metro area will converge on Jackson State University Thursday for a regional science fair.

The annual Mississippi Region II Science and Engineering Fair to be held March 19-20 will include grades 1-12 from Claiborne, Copiah, Hinds, Jefferson, Madison, Rankin and Warren counties, according to Joe Whitfield, Region II Science Fair director.

Students will present projects in the areas of behavioral, social science, public health, education, science, mathematics, engineering, technology, health and medical professions.

It’s divided into two sections, with grades 1-6 presenting their projects on Thursday and grades 7-12 presenting on Friday, at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center, 1400 John R. Lynch St. in Jackson, Miss.

The event is hosted by JSU’s College of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Winners will advance to the Mississippi Science and Engineering State Fair March 23-24 in Hattiesburg.

The International Science and Engineering Fair will be held in Los Angeles, Calif., May 10-15.
