JSU partners with TECHJXN, #YesWeCode Hackathon to train students to address economy

Jackson State University will join two partners in developing a creative approach for addressing economic issues using digital technology.

JSU,  TECHJXN Innovation Summit and #YesWeCode Hackathon will huddle from June 30 to July 1 in the downtown Convention Center. It’s a first-of-its-kind event for students and adult volunteers to use their talents for solving some of the state’s biggest problems. As well, it aims to inspire teens to reach educational goals in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math).

Also, #YesWeCode is teaming with Estella’s Brilliant Bus, a customized mobile learning center, to produce a national Hackathon at the New Orleans Essence Festival in July. The bulk of Hackathon, which is being covered by a documentary film crew, will originate from Jackson.

Meanwhile, in Jackson, features for the summit will include JSU’s College of Public Service; College of Science Engineering and Technology; INNOVATE; and CREATE.

Dr. Ricardo Brown, dean of the College of Public Service, will moderate the event. Brown said, “Jackson State will use its agility in engineering technology to help cultivate an innovative ecosystem.”

Also, the summit will host local and national speakers addressing the economy and a range of tech-savvy topics. It aims to foster “inclusive competitiveness” among underrepresented populations, enabling them to develop strategic initiatives for creating jobs and wealth.
