Jackson State University alum and current graduate student Derrick V. Chapman is currently in the running to become Redbook magazine’s “Hottest Husband of 2013.” Chapman became a finalist after his wife, Qiana T. Chapman, also a JSU alum and graduate student, entered him in the contest that asked for wives to describe their husbands’ hotness in terms of family, career and their relationship.
The initial applicant count topped out at 1,800, and ended with 25 finalists. As a result of making it into the finals, the Chapmans were invited to be one of six couples selected to travel to New York for a taping of the Katie Couric Show. The program is partnering with Redbook to promote love and relationships and highlight the contest.
Derrick is from Detroit, Mich., and graduated from JSU in 2008. He was an avid marcher for the Sonic Boom of the South, arriving in 2000 on a music scholarship. Qiana is a native of Decatur, Ill., and graduated from JSU in 2004 and 2010. The Chapmans are pursing degrees in the Mathematics and English departments and are employed as teachers with Jackson Public Schools.
Please vote for JSU alum Derrick V. Chapman. Voting is open through the week of Oct. 22.
