Russell, a 1982 JSU graduate,  won football season tickets and an ultimate fan pack, including JSU T-shirts, cups, mugs and other items.

Russell participated in the contest that required television viewers to send the text message “JSU 40” to a particular number. She was randomly chosen from more than 300 entries. The contest was co-sponsored by Jackson’s WDBD Fox 40 station.

University Communications Executive  Director Eric Stringfellow presented the prizes to Russell on Friday. Russell said she was shocked when she learned she’d won the contest.

“I thought it was a hoax at first,” she said. “I usually don’t win prizes.”

Russell graduated from JSU in 1982 with a B.S. in Business Management. Russell said much has changed at the campus since she was a student.

“I’m proud of Jackson State. I think Dr. Carolyn Meyers is doing a good job. The campus and surrounding area has greatly improved since I was here,” Russell said.
