A big crowd is expected as the BET Black College Tour hits the JSU campus Friday, Oct. 31, at Gibbs/Green Plaza — and it promises to be a treat, no trick!
“We will probably have 3,000 to 4,000 students over the course of the event,” said Dr. Gary Crosby, director of Center for Student Leadership and Involvement.
From noon to 4 p.m., expect lots of music, games, and information.
There will be a rap battle, a DJ to play music, executives from BET and it will host HIV testing, among other offerings at the event, Crosby said.
It’s not “themed” for Halloween, though it falls on that date. It will be a lot like the pedestrian walkway events held at Homecoming, he said.
Jackson State is one of 14 stops this year at HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities).
The traveling free event has been going on for more than a decade.
“They’ve been here quite a few times,” Crosby said.
BET Networks, a subsidiary of Viacom Inc., provides entertainment, music, news and public affairs television programming for the African-American audience. The primary BET channel reaches more than 90 million households.
