JSU student Cameron Caldwell’s video entry for the “Rep Your HBCU” contest was one of 10 selected by BET’s “THE QUAD.” The video contest allows students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) the opportunity to have their work and school showcased at BET.

“The other videos chosen were really good, so I’m honored that they liked my video as well,” said Caldwell, junior marketing major.

BET received more than 70 videos for the popular new video contest. The requirements for the contest were:

  • demonstrate clear production skills
  • the speaker had to be articulate
  • the video piece must be well-written
  • the video had to represent the student’s HBCU in a creative and outstanding manner.

Caldwell says it is a delight to receive such a reward allowing him to display his work and highlight Jackson State University.

“When I got the news it felt really good. Being chosen felt like it was meant to happen. Any opportunity that comes from this would just be an added bonus.”

Caldwell’s superior entry will be showcased on BET’s new web series, “The Quad’s Office Hours.”

“The episode that my video is featured in currently has over 100,000 views, so that was a cool look for JSU and myself,” said Caldwell.

Some of the other student winners were chosen from FAMU, Howard University, Claflin University, Virginia State and Morehouse College.
