When a delegation of Korean and Chinese art scholars visited Jackson State University recently, it may have provided a lasting legacy for young artists at Blackburn Middle School.

The young artists had their work viewed by the delegation and two students won top awards.
All of the entries — both from Chinese and Korean artists, as well as the Blackburn students — are on display at the College of Liberal Arts Gallery on the first floor of the Dollye M.E. Robinson Building.
According to Hyun Chong Kim, JSU professor of art and ceramics, Blackburn students have had their art displayed by JSU off an on at least since 1997 when she came here.
Kim volunteers to teach art at Blackburn as a community service and the 11 students taking her class are shown at the exhibit.
Two students had their work judged best of show, 7th graders LaKeycia Booker and Scottie Stewart.
It’s quite an honor to show their work alongside the American, Korean and Chinese Group Exhibition, Kim acknowledged. Now Blackburn students can say their work has been viewed by an international audience.
Ceramics scholar Dr. Dong Hun Chung, head professor in the Department of Ceramics and Doctoral Program at WonKwang University in Korea, led the delegation from Korea and China to JSU on Jan. 15. They were at JSU to introduce the American, Korean and Chinese Group Exhibition, showing concurrently with the students’ work.
Hours for the free exhibit are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon-Fri. The students’ show, as well as the Chinese and Korean show that features dozens of works, including ceramics, textiles and oil paintings, runs through Feb. 25.

Kim, whose art is included in the show, curated the international exhibit and judged the students’ work.
