The more than century-old College Board, a nonprofit organization designed to expand access to higher education, has tapped Jackson State University Associate Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Evelyn J. Leggette, to its HBCU Advisory Conference.
“My role is to work with other members on the academic affairs side of the conference in setting topics that will be of interest to department chairs, vice presidents and presidents on how to improve and work together on the issue of student success,” said Leggette, who is also dean of undergraduate studies.
Because the conference is an invitation-only, two-day professional development event, Leggett said she considers her selection an honor because she will be able to represent JSU and help guarantee that academic affairs at HBCUs will be given a top priority, along with financial and enrollment management.
Leggette credits her selection as a panelist to her commitment to student success while serving in dual roles at JSU. Furthermore, she notes her many years of involvement with the HBCU conference as a presenter on pertinent topics that affect campus operations.
Members of the advisory are selected from the academic, financial aid and enrollment communities from member institutions of the College Board. They meet twice a year to discuss current issues and plan for the annual HBCU conference.
In general, the College Board aims to enhance students’ scholastic success. As well, the membership association is made up of more than 6,000 of the world’s leading educational institutions. It boasts of helping more than 7 million students prepare annually for college through programs and services in college readiness and college success, including the SAT and the Advanced Placement Program.
