Jackson State University’s Third Annual CyberLearning Summit — a ground-breaking conference of faculty, staff and visitors that explores the emerging marriage of teaching and technology — will be held Feb. 26-27.
“This year’s Summit focuses on the transformation of the learning experience,” said Dr. Robert Blaine, dean of Undergraduate Studies and CyberLearning.
“We will highlight our curricular transformations through PRID (the Pedagogical Redevelopment of Instructional Design), the Digital Intellectual Commons (Innovate, Create, and Advance) and TASI (the Technology Advantage Scholarship Initiative) our 1 to 1 mobile technology program, as we demonstrate the CyberLearning ecosystem,” Blaine said.
The Summit, to be held at the JSU Student Center, will bring together diverse institutions from throughout the country with JSU faculty and staff, he added. Registration for the Summit is free to JSU faculty and staff and $100 per person for those visiting.
JSU has emerged as a national leader in this transformative learning method. The university is in the third year of its iPad initiative, providing the device to every incoming freshman. Faculty members are authoring digital textbooks for their classes, and JSU continues to receive recognition for its efforts. Apple Inc. has designated JSU an Apple Distinguished School, joining a select group of institutions across the country.
Last year at the Summit, JSU held a grand-opening for Innovate on the first floor of the H.T. Sampson Library. The center functions as a space for Internet Technology (IT) and distance learning, giving faculty and staff a place to design digital curriculum and classroom assignments.
