(JACKSON, Miss.) – After a successful internal search, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs James C. Renick has announced a new appointment within the Division of Academic Affairs.

Dr. Evelyn J. Leggette, Dean of Undergraduate Studies and a Professor of Education, has been appointed Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, pending approval by the Mississippi Board of Trustees for State Institutions of Higher Learning.

“Dr. Leggette’s extensive, and effective, track record as an academic leader at Jackson State University will be an asset to the Division of Academic Affairs,” Renick said. “We value her experience and vision, and look forward to working with her in this expanded and important role.”

Leggette has served as dean of Undergraduate Studies since 1990. She helped establish Undergraduate Studies, University College and the W.E.B. Du Bois Honors College, and over the years has filled numerous key leadership roles throughout the university. She also is a full, tenured professor in the College of Education and Human Development.

Leggette will maintain the position of Dean of Undergraduate Studies until a national search is conducted for her replacement.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to work in the Division of Academic Affairs as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs as we continue to transform the teaching and learning environment,” Leggette said. “I look forward to supporting the academic units and the further development of our cutting-edge cyberlearning practices and new online degree programs, which are increasing access to higher education, enhancing learning outcomes and increasing enrollment, retention and graduation.”

Leggette will succeed Dr. Thomas C. Calhoun, who will retire on June 30.
