A workshop Tuesday, April 14, at the Engineering Building offers JSU faculty in all departments a way to boost their research and expand their teaching.
Called XSEDE: Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment, and taught by National XSEDE instructors, it will “discuss computational data science curriculum and resource opportunities that exist for faculty and researchers,” said Tor A. Kwembe, professor and chair, Department of Mathematics and Statistical Sciences.
The workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 100, teaches how to integrate computational courses into research and the curriculum. The workshop is not limited to science, engineering and technology, but includes:
— How researchers can access supercomputers;
— How the humanities can use high-performance computing.
According to Kwembe, the workshop is already exciting interest among sister institutions. Faculty from Southern University, Alcorn State University, Mississippi Valley State University and Rust College are expected to attend, he said.
“This workshop will create overall awareness and the importance of computational and data-enabled science for the 21st century workforce. It will further broaden and enhance understanding of data science in all related fields,” Kwembe said.
