Jackson State University’s Gallery 1 will host a Jan. 17 screening and discussion of “AMANDLA! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony,” a film focusing on music’s role in South Africa’s fight against apartheid.
The event, which begins at 6 p.m., is free and open to the public.
“We’ll talk and have some refreshments. It will be fun,” said Kimberly Jacobs, the gallery’s director.
The film won the Audience Award and the Freedom of Expression Award at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. It was also nominated for the Grand Jury Prize that same year.
The event is part of the exhibit, “Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, His Life in the Struggle: A Pictorial History.” The exhibit’s curator is Dr. Rico Chapman, a faculty member in the Department of History and Philosophy.
The exhibit will run through Jan. 19.
