Jackson State University graduate student Charles R. Husband has been announced Jackson Public School’s Parent of the Year.
An active parent at George Elementary, Husband was named during a surprise announcement at the Jackson Public School Board of Trustees meeting on April 16. Husband was one of three finalists who exhibited outstanding leadership and involvement in Jackson Public Schools.
Husband was also instrumental in the creation and development of a project called All Eyes on Me with the assistance of Parents for Public Schools, the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Safe Routes to School Initiative. This community service project promotes safe practices for drivers and passengers of buses, vans, cars, walkers, and bicyclists. It also encourages neighbors to have a watchful, protective eye on children during their route to and from school.
“Mr. Husband is an outstanding parent who has shared his talents and resources with George Elementary School for six years,” said Dr. Mary Ann Bailey, principal at George Elementary School. “He has served as a child advocate by forming partnerships to create a safe zone for students. He continues to mentor and encourage students to participate actively in their education.”
Husband is pursuing a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning. He is also a recipient of a Masters in Public Policy and Administration from Jackson State University.
