Indeed, it was a frigid, yet festive night to remember when hundreds assembled to celebrate the spirit of the season on the Gibbs-Green plaza at the corner of John R. Lynch and Dalton streets.
As usual, the highlight was the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus, who delighted the crowd with storybook readings. They also received an earful of wishes from all the young people.
Bands, choirs, singers and dancers helped welcome the community as spectators experienced a multicultural affair.
Children and adults took pictures with Santa and watched as the tree-lighting ceremony further added to the glow of other Christmas decorations that turned the pedestrian walkway into a holiday wonderland.
And, in the spirit of the yuletide season, faculty and staff provided gifts and toys – as part of their Angel Tree project – to dozens of youth and watched their faces glow with delight.
The free event also featured refreshments (cookies, hot chocolate and cider), along with train rides and other family activities.
