
(JACKSON, Miss.) – Thomas Hudson, a Jackson attorney and Jackson State University alumnus, has been appointed to the position of Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action officer for JSU.
Hudson, whose appointment is effective Tuesday, Oct. 16, is a licensed attorney, mediator and trainer with extensive experience in administering an EEO program. He will work under the general direction of JSU’s Executive Director of Human Resources and be responsible for investigating allegations of discrimination or workplace harassment and developing and organizing an Equal Opportunity Employment/Affirmative Action plan for the university.
Hudson also will advise and assist Human Resources personnel to ensure Jackson State is in compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidelines and promote an environment free from discrimination and workplace harassment for all employees and applicants. He will respond to complaints from enforcement agencies in conjunction with JSU’s General Counsel.
In addition to his work as a private-practice attorney, Hudson worked as a contract EEO investigator with for the U.S. Postal Service.
Hudson also previously worked as an EEO specialist for the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA, processing numerous EEO complaints, mediating employee disputes and providing EEO, sexual harassment and diversity training to more than 1,000 employees throughout Central and Southern Mississippi.
“My experience administering an Equal Opportunity Employment program combined with a strong passion for my alma mater and this area of the law makes me an ideal fit for this position at Jackson State,” Hudson said. “I have a great desire to see my alma mater advance. Jackson State should have a model EEO program and I know I can play an important role in making that happen.”
While attending law school at the University of Memphis, Hudson was an intern with the National Labor Relations Board in Memphis in 2005.
