(JACKSON, Miss.) – Jackson State University will celebrate the 27th Annual Gladys P. Norris National Piano Festival Feb. 22– 23 at the F. D. Hall Music Center on the university’s main campus,1400 John R. Lynch St. in Jackson. During the festival, more than 100 piano students will display their talents.
The Gladys P. Norris National Piano Festival is a lasting legacy of Gladys P. Norris, who cared deeply about advancing the classical piano performance talents of our students, said Karen Laubengayer, Ph.D., professor of music at JSU, who served as co-chair with and festival founder Anita Jackson, Ph.D.
“Cultivating these talents in the formative years is so important in preparing the students for a rewarding career in piano performance,” Laubengayer said. “The festival affords them this opportunity and gives them a glimpse of ‘setting their own stage’ in the music world and the continued preparation needed in obtaining their dreams.”
The festival will begin at 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 22, with junior high and high school competitions. It will continue at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, with elementary competition. All festival recital competitions are free and open to the public.
