Dr. Brian Anderson, professor for the School of Social Work has been named Social Work Educator of the Year by the Alabama/Mississippi Social Work Education Conference for the third-time. Anderson also received this honor in 2009 and 2014.
“It’s an honor to receive this award, particularly at such a reputable regional conference representing the states of Mississippi and Alabama,” says Anderson. “In addition, I am extremely humbled and gratified to be a third-time recipient of this award.”
Each year the Alabama/Mississippi Social Work Education conference honors one Social Work Educator of the Year from each of the two states. This award is the conference’s way of recognizing excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship in the field of social work.
“I would encourage everyone to stay active and relevant in the academy, our profession within our respective states, as well on the regional and national levels.”
Nominees are considered for this award on the basis of the following criteria:
- Active involvement with the Alabama/Mississippi Social Work Education Conference
- Scholarly activity, service and leadership
- Community service/ outreach
- Model of professionalism for social work students
